Objective. To investigate the antibiotic susceptibility and persistent potential of Staphylococcus aureus strains isolated from children and adults with acute enteric diseases.
Materials and methods. The features of bacterial S. aures strains isolated from the wash waters and feces of inpatients diagnosed with acute enteric disease were investigated.
Results. The S. aures strains isolated from adults are quite susceptible to cephalosporins, tetracyclines, and fluoroquinolones. Cephalosporins remain the drugs of choice in children. The bacterial S. aures strains isolated from adults have a more pronounced persistence, which creates conditions for the chronization of an infectious disease.
Conclusion. It is advisable to introduce an assessment of the persistent potential of pathogens of bacterial infections into the practice of clinical and microbiological services.
