The growing epidemic of HIV infection plays a considerable negative role the development of the tuberculosis (TB) epidemic situation. The diagnosis and treatment of latent tuberculosis infection are of special significance for HIV-infected patients because they are at high risk for active TB forms. In this connection, the role of chemoprophylaxis is great for this category of patients, which can reduce the risk of TB by 90%. The paper gives data on the role of TB chemoprophylaxis in HIV-infected patients now when drug-resistant TB is spreading. Under the existing conditions, low TB chemoprophylaxis coverage for HIV-infected patients increases the number of newly diagnosed TB cases, by worsening the overall epidemic situation in the country. The importance of affordable and convenient regimens for chemoprophylaxis of TB and for relief of adverse reactions is underscored.
